Medical Assistant within the FQHC
Staffing Medical Assistant (MA) positions is a constant challenge for many health center HR and nursing departments. Once hired, MAs often require re-training on skills and training on teambased care and the health center mission. In this interactive session, health center nursing department leaders and MA educators will help participants explore benefits and challenges of three strategies health centers use to secure a high-functioning MA workforce: internal training programs, serving as a clinical placement site for a traditional MA program, and partnering with a school focused on preparing MAs for a team-based primary care setting. Participants will gain talking points that can be used to advocate for a new MA training model, best practices in MA training, and strategies for MA retention and career ladder development.
