Nicotine Addiction in Adolescents
Dr. Maria Rahmandar is an attending physician in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Lurie Children's Hospital, the Medical Director of the Substance Use & Prevention Program, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Her clinical interests include adolescent substance use, mental health and long-acting reversible contraception.

Learning Objectives: 

Attendees will be able to identify risk factors for developing a Nicotine use disorder  
Attendees will understand the current trends regarding adolescent nicotine use (tobacco/smoking or vaping/e-cigarettes)
Attendees will obtain screening and intervention strategies and treatment options for adolescent

Continuing education is made possible through the Community Health Center, Inc. (CHCI) and its Weitzman Institute, the research, education, and policy arm of CHCI. In support of improving patient care, this activity was planned and implemented by the Illinois Primary Health Care Association and Community Health Center, Inc./Weitzman Institute and is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
