Tropical Diseases in FQHC Patients - Coming Our Way

Tropical Diseases in FQHC Patients - Coming Our Way
Tropical diseases are no longer confined to the warmer climates of Africa, Asia, or Middle Eastern countries. Social determinates of disease, notably poverty, also concentrate tropical diseases in wealthy G20 countries, including the USA. Community Health Center clinicians need to be aware of and trained in such disease entities, as they can be acquired within our borders, not solely by immigration or travel.

Learning Objectives:
1) Provide a global perspective regarding tropical diseases and their enormous morbidity and mortality,
2) Discuss under-recognized and under-diagnosed regional tropical diseases found in low socioeconomic urban areas of the USA.
3) Discuss available tropical disease clinical training.

In support of improving patient care, this activity was planned and implemented by the Illinois Primary Health Care Association and Moses/Weitzman Health System and its Weitzman Institute and is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. Additional CE credits are available for physician assistants/associates.
